Our Story

How it all started...

Anderson First Church of the Nazarene is a church that has been anointed with God's blessings over the years and we continue as a beacon of light to the community and around the world. Established on January 28, 1915, the church is still spreading the Word about the saving grace found in Jesus Christ. It is unusual to find a church that is still relevant and effective after a century of ministry. We think that you will find AFC to be a church that is making a difference in a hurting world. This church has been located on this same corner for 100+ years and we continue our strong commitment to finding, knowing ad sharing the hope and saving grace found in Jesus Christ.

the timeline...

As you explore the timeline and the history of AFC, a few things will probably stand out to you. Many times space has had to be made, built or created in a unique way to handle the growing number of folks wanting to learn and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Discipleship doesn't end with the Sunday sermon, but continues with Sunday School, Bible studies, Small Groups and more.

AFC over the years has expanded in the hardest of times: the Great Depression, the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 20% in 1980 when the current worship center was built, and the Covid-19 epedemic when the vision and funds were raised for the Community Center @ AFC. When a church family is bound so tightly with their Heavenly Father, amazing things can happen.

Trust and believe.
